St. Louis Blues
With the Blues knocking of Denver in the regular-season finale along with Minnesota beating Columbus and Phoenix beating Anaheim in a shootout, but Blues have finished their meteoric rise by coming up from dead last in the Western Conference to finish a sixth in the course of exactly two months. That's just incredible. A last place team in February goes a league-best 25-9-7 to finish the season, makes the post-season, and avoids a 1-8 or a 2-7 match up and gets seeded 6th to face the 3rd place team.|
The Blues will start their return to the Stanley Cup playoffs on Wednesday in Vancouver at 9 PM CT. Vancouver finished with more points (of course), but the Blues are not only the hottest team in hockey since February, but also finished the season with a West-best 9-1-1 record. The Blues and the Canucks also split the regular-season series tied at 2-2 and each team won a road game. Even the goals scored were almost even with Vancouver edging out the Blues 15-14.
The early picks that I've seen are saying that the Canucks are the team to beat for the Cup in the West, but I think it's too easy to discount the Blues with their poor showing these past few years.
